We believe that all our students should participate in sport as it provides them with learning opportunities and contributes to their overall development by helping them to lead full, active and healthy lives.
A wide range of sporting facilities are available for, and utilised by the school. We have our own indoor sports hall, outdoor court, a pitch and playing field. We also have local access to a swimming pool and an astro turf pitch .
The school has invested in an extensive range of sports equipment which is supplemented annually by the Board of Management.
Soccer, football, basketball, unihoc, athletics, rounders, badminton and a wide variety of other games and sports are played at the school. We also promote fitness through aerobics, walking, yoga, dance and relaxation exercises. Novelty events, for example, treasure hunts , go-karting, surfing and orienteering are also organised.
The boys play in the Munster and All Ireland inter schools outdoor and indoor competitions. A number of our students have been capped for Ireland. Our students have benefited from the FAI skills programme.
Basketball is a huge part of school life. In recent years both the A and B teams have achieved great success. Training takes place once a week in Cummann Iosaf Sports Hall. We take part in many competitions. Every November we host the Munster schools Basketball Blitz and teams travel from Cork, Limerick and Tipperary.
Swimming lessons are available to all students at the local pool. A large swimming team from the school participates in the inter schools swimming gala every year.
Each year we train for and take part in the Munster Athletics in Cork. Participation is the key but we celebrate our winning too. All students participate in events during our annual sports day regardless of ability.
We also work closely with The Institute O Technology Tralee who offer a range of sporting and fitness activities to our students.
